Private incident preparation
The report tool does not upload your account or evidence to our servers. Form data exists in the page’s memory until you clear it, reload, navigate away, or close the page. We do not intentionally save report fields in local storage or cookies. Your browser, extensions, password manager, and operating system may have their own behavior.
When you choose Save encrypted packet, the browser derives an encryption key from your passphrase using PBKDF2-SHA-256 with 600,000 iterations and a random salt, then encrypts your record and files with AES-256-GCM and a fresh nonce. The resulting .sbr file downloads to your device. Its filename does not contain your incident details.
A weak or reused passphrase reduces protection. Encryption does not protect an unlocked or compromised device. We cannot reset your passphrase or recover a lost packet. Opening a saved packet happens locally; any readable files you then download are unencrypted and remain on your device until you remove them.
No staffed intake yet
Preparing or saving a packet does not notify Side by Right, submit an agency complaint, retain counsel, or stop deadlines. We do not currently hold report records, share them with lawyers, or review submissions. Before live intake opens, this policy must identify the data controller, authorized recipients, access controls, retention and deletion process, and contact channel.
Site delivery & external links
We do not embed advertising trackers, analytics scripts, third-party fonts, or social widgets. Our hosting and network providers may process IP addresses and technical request information to deliver and protect the site. External destinations, including DOJ pages, apply their own privacy policies. Visiting a link does not send your private report form to that destination.
Accessibility commitment
The design targets WCAG 2.2 AA practices: semantic structure, keyboard navigation, visible focus, labelled fields, error/status messages, sufficient contrast, responsive text, and reduced-motion support. This is not a claim of certified conformance. Human testing with assistive technologies and users with disabilities remains part of the launch process.
